Strasser Method - seven months
see story below or on the new
gallery page
Hi there,
I hope, unlike we in North Canterbury, you are getting some Autumn rain!
It has been a while since the last newsletter and we have had a pretty busy few months with loads to report.
Firstly, Teresa Ramsey from NaturalHoof is now our newsletter editor and has put together this great newsletter. Thanks Teresa.
Most Strasser Hoofcare Professionals (SHPs) have just finished a very
busy three-day Continuing Education
(CE) seminar at Thorsten Kaiser's property in Cust. Continuing
Education is held every year and is compulsory for SHPs to remain
registered. A full-on three days of catching up on the latest
developments in Strasser Hoofcare, including a demonstration of how
to fit the new Glove Hoofboot, and the latest developments to the
Strasser trim. Also, a timely review of mudfever - funny how
mudfever is often present when there is no
mud. This is because it is caused by circulatory disruption
(contracted hooves), which is often why topical treatments don't
work long term. It was also great to share success stories...

Also attended: Tony Aitken, Loburn; and John Easther, Wellington
Case
studies presented at CE were
excellent with a wide range of problems, some of them very serious.
Strasser
Hoofcare Instructor Thorsten
Kaiser presented an incredible case study of a purebred Clydesdale
broodmare, which had coffin bone protrusion through the sole in all
four hooves after grazing white clover with existing poor hoof form.
Despite going into organ failure at the time, the mare has made a
full recovery with natural methods, resulting in good coffin bone
suspension in all four hoof capsules. Her health recovered fully,
enabling her to become in foal again at 21 years of age.
This
horse had been under conventional veterinary and farrier care due to
a very bad toe crack right through the coronet. The farrier had
grooved out the crack vertically and very deeply, the hoof was then
fitted with a plate and screws, which is standard conventional
treatment. After 18 months there was no improvement and the vet had
recommended grooving the coronet to allow a new hoof capsule to grow
down, or euthanasia. After just seven short months of Strasser
Trimming by Strasser Hoofcare Professional Penny Gifford, based in
Kumeu, and natural lifestyle (paddock rest, herd life, soaking,
movement, etc) the crack has mostly grown out and the horse is sound
and galloping around the paddock. The horse is able to be ridden
lightly and continues to improve.
Kumeu
Seminar Report: The
Holistic Horse and Hoofcare Seminar in Kumeu last month was very
successful. Numbers of horse owners interested in the Strasser
Method are always climbing, with a record 17 people attending,
foollwing a busy 12 attendees in the recent Tirau seminar. See below
for details of the next clinic.
Due to the great results in the field, this course
gains more and more popularity every year. So, why not make this your career, too? There certainly is a great demand for qualified hoofcare professionals in the field.
The Strasser Hoofcare course teaches non-invasive techniques of lameness
prevention and rehabilitation. Over a two-year period, you will
receive an education to become a professional in the field of
Holistic Equine Hoofcare. Due
to the complexity of the material, the course now runs over two years
instead of one. Year 1's focus is on knowledge transfer, whereas year
2 will focus on the transfer of experience. If you are looking for a
new challenge and want to be a part of a group of people who can make
a difference, then this course is for you. Registration
closes in July 2010.
If
you have any questions, or would like further information and/or
registration material, please contact Institute for Barefoot Equine

In
this Holistic Horse and Hoofcare Seminar you will get answers and
explanations, based on scientific research over many decades. On the
practical day you will get an overview of this non-invasive hoofcare
approach. People who have attended this seminar often say every horse
owner should attend. Go to
our e-shop
for online registration or further information.

The Great New Zealand Trek was a success for Strasser Hoofcare, with
SHP Penny Gifford completing the week-long trek through the King
Country with four of her clients, all barefoot of course.

A special day: "My daugher Brittany specifically wanted to ride
our Harley to her wedding at Palm Beach on Waiheke Island.
Harlequin is a very special horse in my family. He is a real one in
a million with a very kind nature and willing temperament. Jackpot
is a 7yr station x tb that I bred. The weather was perfect and it
was a great feeling to ride with my daughter on our two beautiful
horses to her wedding." Penny Gifford, SHP
